What a wonderfully sweet Happy for Duncan (Formerly Simba)

'

Hi Las Vegas Lab Rescue,
We rescued Duncan (formerly Simba) in August after he was brought over from China. He has quickly became the shining star of our whole world. He is so spunky and loves to play with people and dogs and gets so excited when he meets someone new. He graduated level one petco training at the top of his class (and early!) and knows how to sit, lay down, stay, leave it, and come when he is called. He loves to hike and leads the pack every time. As spunky as he is, there’s nothing he loves more than spending a Sunday morning cuddling on the couch with mom and dad. "

We love finishing 2019 with incredible Happy Tails like Chewy's:

"Hi! Just sending an update on Chewie (formerly Opie).  Chewie (now about 4 years old) is always ready to play fetch and our kids love that game just as much as him.  He immediately got along well with our other rescue dog, Nibbler.  The 2 enjoy running around and playing with each other.  Chewie is such a a wonderful edition to our family.

Our Happy tails are just the best. Here's Jojo's (formerly Willow):

"Oh Jojo, where do I begin with this fur child of mine! You can always find Jojo with a ball in her mouth ready to play fetch! She loves when she gets to hangout with other dogs, especially when she takes their toys! She is the queen bee and makes sure to let everyone know it. Jojo brings so much joy and laughter to everyone she meets, and I am very lucky to call her mine! "

Here's another gorgeous Happy Tail for Ellie (formerly Janie)

"We were filled with excitement when we found out that we were approved to adopt a beautiful yellow Labrador back in April. Ellie, or formerly known as Janie, has brought so much love and excitement into our home. Our sweet Ellie girl is a rambunctious young lab, who is filled with personality and loves to be the center of attention. She gets along great with our 10-year-old boxer, Guiness, and has brought some youth back into him. She is a pure family dog who just wants to be next to you at all times. Our spunky girl keeps definitely keeps us on our toes. A few of Ellie’s favorite are going on walks, playing hide and  seek in the house, playing fetch, chewing on indestructible chew toys, eating her dad’s sandals when he forgets to put them away, belly rubs, sweet morning cuddles, sleeping under the bed, turning on the bathtub water when thirsty, and barking at all dogs that she sees on the TV. Ellie is notorious for getting her toys stuck in tight spots and letting us know when she needs our help retrieving it. Ellie quickly integrated into our household making it her new safe spot. Our home would not be the same without our little girl in it. We couldn’t be more thankful for the Lab Rescue for our newest and sweetest addition to our family."

"We adopted Buddy in February 2018 and moved to Pahrump this year. Buddy likes his big back yard but his favorite part of the day is going to the dog park, where he goes every day (except Tuesday because he's scared of the trash truck). Here are some pictures of Buddy playing with his best friends Oscar and Jasper. Merry Christmas to Las Vegas Lab Rescue and thank you for Buddy. "

What a sweet, heart-warming happy tail for Maggie.

"Maggie found me when I needed her the most. In the middle of a divorce, a new job, my daughter in daycare for the first time, things were hard. I ran into two gentlemen at a dog washing store. They had two beautiful labs with them. I told them how much I loved labs and wanted an older female to be a companion for my little dog. They looked at each other and said “Maggie!” They told me her story, her owners divorced, her owner that took her was not allowed to have dogs and had to surrender her. I had two pit bulls that I had to leave with my ex-husband because nobody would allow them. Maggie had a dog brother that she was separated from and they told me she cried driving away. My daughter had step siblings that she was being separated from and I thought of our drive away. I said “I will take her.” I went the next day to meet Maggie and fill out the application, but she wasn’t there. She was at the vet, I filled out the application and waited impatiently for news. Luckily we were selected and Maggie came home to us that Easter Sunday. She was 6.5 years young and instantly jumped in the bounce house. Maggie filled the holes in our hearts with her love. She was my best friend, she was meant to be my dog. As the years moved on, she slowed down, but always met me at the door, walked me to the door before work, and she continued to fill my heart with love. Maggie was there when we found our new person, she started new schools with my daughter, and saw us get back on our feet. Maggie stayed with us until she knew we were going to be okay. In August of this year Maggie crossed the Rainbow bridge and took a huge part of my heart with her. She gave me the best 7 1/2 years of my life. I am forever grateful to your organization, those two amazing guys that knew we needed each other and the chance to have loved the best dog in the world. My heart will always ache for her, but she was worth it all. Thank you for giving us both a second chance. We miss you Maggie. "

Adopted: Arya, a 1.5 year old Black Female Labrador, has found her forever home.

Here is a Bio from her foster family……..

"Arya is a sweet, well behaved, energetic little girl with lots of love to give. She is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly. Arya is technically black, but has the charcoal shade of black in her coat. She is great with other dogs. She loves going for walks and is good on the leash. She loves to cuddle on the couch. She listens to basic commands like sit, lay down and she gives high fives. She goes in the kennel with no problem and sleeps through the night without barking or crying. Arya does need work with house training, but she's very smart and quick to learn. Arya is going to be a great companion for someone looking for a younger, active dog. "

What's better than a Happy Tail? A double Happy Tail! Here's a great update from a multiple adopter of LVLR:

'Kona (fka Toby) is coming up on his 6th adoptaversary with our family. He still loves walks, food, barking at dogs and humans anywhere in the vicinity of our house, naps on the couch, and did I mention food? He is now 7, so he naps more and loves to snuggle up alongside his family on the couch to watch movies, football, or hockey.

Kiera has been with us for 2 1/2 years and came to us as an active senior dog. She loves being the boss of Kona, walks, food, snuggling on the couch, and going for rides in the car. She is estimated to be 9 -10 years old now, but has as much energy as a puppy most of the time. No toy is safe when Kiera decides to “play.” Kiera is not as fond of hockey and football and has her own noise reducing headphones to wear when the Buckeyes, Packers, or Golden Knights are on and her family gets excited. (Pic) Kiera is more comfortable around other people and dogs, so she went trick-or-treating this year with her human brother (pic.)

Kona and Kiera have brought more unconditional love into our home than we ever imagined was possible. Thank you for bringing us together, LVLR."

In July this sweet baby will turn 16. We are blessed to have her. She is the sweetest and kindest dog. She has brought so much joy to our home."

We're having an amazing week of Happy Tails!

"This is Dude, formerly known as Dudley. We adopted him at the end of May this year. He loves swimming and running around our 2 acres, always while carrying a toy or ball in his mouth. He’s been great with our older dog Autumn and they are already best friends. He is such a lover and we couldn’t have asked for a better dog. Thank you for letting us adopt him and making him a part of our family."

We couldn't be happier to see this Happy Tail from one of the Magnificent 7 puppies of 2017:

"It's been 2 1/2 years since Finn came home with us. It was several months after our previous lab had passed away and
the timing was perfect. He was a typical lab puppy; so cute and yet so stubborn and had what we called RAV's - Random acts of violence.
He has since grown out of chewing on socks, refusing to walk on a leash (that was short lived) and stealing tissues and underwear.
He is such a goofball and fits in perfectly with our family. He now loves to go on runs, hiking, lots of naps on a pillow, loves to get all of
his toys out of his toy box and has finally learned to get his picture taken without barking at the camera. His big soft ears are just the best!

Thank you for our precious pup!

Brian, DJ, Hannah, Sarah and Kelsey"

Happy Tail: Lily

This is a wonderful Happy Tail for one of our senior alumni.

"We have had our Lily just short of 2 years. We knew taking her would be a challenge as she was dog apprehensive and we had another rescue, for about 9 weeks prior. Determined to free up her foster, Tim, to take in others, and give her a forever home, we researched solutions and talked with Dave. He came to our home to see Mia, and determined we were a good fit. We were. It took several months to be able to leave our girls alone, but we did it. They sleep together. Lily goes everywhere with us, hiking, to Nelson, on vacation, restaurants, stores, she runs and slams her body against the garage door if she sees us getting ready to go anywhere. She sleeps with us. She watches TV with us. She helps me cook in the kitchen, volunteering for clean up duty should I drop anything. Can’t imagine life without her, and truly feel sorry for whoever gave her up. She is one of the best blessings we have ever had. Thanks Cynthia for pulling this one. We are complete."

Happy Tail: Raider (Formerly Conner)

We love getting these updates on our adopted Labs!
"Hi,

We adopted a four month old boy back in April. He was one of three lab mix puppies rescued from Utah. He has since been named Raider. Most of our family are huge Raider fans and my husband has been working on the Raider stadium for the past couple years, so it just fit.

We knew Raider was a mix when we adopted him, but curiosity got the best of us so we did one of those home DNA tests. To our surprise our black Lab is actually a Rottweiler in disguise, lol. He is 2% Labrador. We love him just the same. 💚

Raider is extremely smart. He knows all the normal commands, but beyond that he uses his wit to get away with naughty stuff too. He can snatch food off your plate in a way that leaves no mess or evidence. He knows how to step on the foot lever of the trash can to get it open. He hides stolen items under couches or other low places that people can’t easily get to. He amazes me sometimes with his sneakiness.

He is very good with both our kids and he would protect our 4 year old daughter with his life. He is her big lap dog baby. He loves chasing bunnies in our back yard, even though he is yet to catch one. He is probably the fastest dog I’ve ever seen too. His best friend/enemy is the neighbors cat. Sometimes they snuggle and sometimes they try to eat each other. The cat had the upper hand for about the first three months (see video).

Raider is a happy boy. He has an acre to runaround and play, but still loves snuggling on the couch just as much. We are so happy to have him as part of our family.

Sincerely,
Raider’s Mommy"

"Hazel is a sweet, energetic puppy! She loves being people, snuggling and playing. Hazel is doing well with house training, rides great in a car, and is good with other dogs. She's good being crated, sleeping almost all the way through the nigh now. Like an puppy, Hazel needs continued training to focus energy, walk on leash, and get through the mouthy stage. Hazel is wonderfully affectionate, and wants to please. She's very quick to learn, she's already learned sit, fetch and is working on off, as she's quite bouncy. Hazel will make great addition to any family willing to continue teaching her boundaries, expectations, and love. "

He is wonderful with my two older labs. He loves to play with toys and will steal anything my other dogs are playing with. Just like a annoying little brother. Adopted: Apollo, 3 month old Black Male Labrador, found his forever home.

"PLEASE READ CAREFULLY before requesting a meet and greet for Apollo.

Apollo is a sweet 13 week old puppy, equipped with the full puppy package - razor sharp baby teeth that love to chew on everything, boundless energy and curiosity, always under foot. For perspective, he's too young too have had all his inoculations - round 1 is done but his round 2 remains to be done.

He is good with the crate, sleeps there through the night, and knows to go do his business every time he comes out of the crate. He's had a few accidents in the house but not since we got into a rhythm of going outside very hour or so. He does not understand the doggie door yet and is curious but not ready to go into the pool. He walks well on the leash, gets along with my two Labs, plays fetch and comes when I whistle.

Apollo is a BABY, and like all babies, he needs a lot of attention, patience, guidance, patience, training, patience, and love. Did I mention patience? If you are willing and more important - able, to devote the time and effort needed to raise Apollo, he will return the favor a hundred times over every day. "

"Moose has been a sweet, affectionate, handsome Labrador from the moment we met him. He takes a minute to warm up as he is shy from what he’s faced in his past life, however he soon greets you with a smile and a tail wag and is seeking desperately the love and attention a family can give him. Moose has many puppy like tendencies that will take patience and training to work through such as boredom chewing and potty training of which he has very little. He does excellent when riding in a car and has the cutest adventurous trot when walking on a leash with very little pulling. He’s been friendly with both our dogs and his eyes light up when he’s given special attention or play time with a ball. He’ll make a wonderful companion for his new family!"

The adopting family will be responsible for arranging appointments in the given timeframe, and completing required treatment as directed by LVLR or adoption will be rescinded immediately.

"Moose is a handsome, smart, playful bundle of puppy love. While still young and learning, Moose has demonstrated he's very quick to catch on, already responding to commands such as sit, come, stay, kennel. He gets better every day with intermittent crating and sleeping. He's not 100% house-trained yet, but is doing great with routine trips outside to reinforce positive behavior. Like all puppies his age, Moose is energetic, mouthy, and needs supervision and training over the next several months. He loves to play other dogs and children. Given Moose's age, he'll need a family dedicated to continuing his training, teaching him boundaries and expectations, so he grows into the dog he is meant to be. At this age, Moose is a blank slate, ready and willing to be trained into a fantastic companion dog, with love and support from a committed family.
Families with small children should be cautious when considering Moose, as his puppy behavior (mouthy, bouncy, and playful!) will need to be monitored to ensure a safe environment."

"Oakley is a healthy, happy 15 week old female. She is very smart, and uses the doggy door each time she needs to go out. Like any puppy, she is curious about everything and everyone. She has a lot of energy, and most enjoys running after a toy, bringing it back for a quick game of tug-of-war, and then waiting for you to throw it again. She is kennel trained, although she prefers to be around her family. No information yet about how she reacts to young children or other animals, but families with small children should understand the training Oakley will need over the next year to ensure safety for all."

Adopted: Scout, a 2.5 year old Black Female Labrador, has found looking for her forever home.

Here is a Bio from her foster family……..

"Scout is a beautiful lab who comes to us with some signs of having a hard time as a stray. Besides being the sweetest, cuddly girl, here’s what we know about her: she is approximately 2.5 years old, has had ear repaired for a small tear, has had her dewclaws removed, and was possibly devocalized prior to her coming to LVLR. Scout is healing well, and will have no further issues from the injuries. Devocalization is a surgical procedure performed on dogs, where tissue is removed from the animal's vocal cords to permanently reduce the volume of its vocalizations. She does still bark but it’s a very quiet bark – it sort of sounds like she’s just really hoarse when barking.

Scout is a true blue lab who wants a toy in her mouth at all times but never picks up socks, shoes, etc. Impressive! She appears to be potty trained (we haven’t had any accidents in the house), walks pretty well on a leash, goes into the crate, has a good appetite, and loves to play with people or other dogs. She is grateful for her second chance at finding a forever home and loves to be close by you so she can pay you back with plenty of kisses! She is currently 60 lbs and would make a great companion for any home looking for a fur baby!"

Here is a Bio from his foster family……..

"After some time in the rescue with foster homes, we reassessed Finn's projected age. With help from our vet and an experienced trainer, we believe Finn is actually closer to 3-4 years old, rather than 7 that we were originally told. As always, there are a lot of different factors that go into guessing an age of of dog, and we feel the re-assessment is far more in line for Finn's energy level. We decided new pictures and an update would help people see Finn more accurately.
Finn is a very energetic, active lab with a lot of love to give. He has an incredibly friendly and goofy temperament, and he gets along great with other animals and people. He would make a great companion for anyone who is looking for a friendly, lively addition to their family. Finn is a larger dog, he knows sit and does very well on a leash and is am absolute joy to walk. He will easily go into his crate and stay inside, but becomes anxious when left alone in the crate at first. We're working on him being more comfortable in a crate. Finn will be a great companion to an active family looking for a big, friendly love. He does best with strong leadership, structure & boundaries. Finn is very smart, will need to continue training, and wants to please his humans. "

Epilepsy isn't curable, it's simply something to manage in a dog's lifetime. Rocky is a sweet, energetic Lab that loves being with people. He is very loving and affectionate, but needs work on being left alone. He is friendly with children, other dogs and learning to ignore cats.
Loves to be active, walks, playing fetch, going for rides. Rocky currently doesn't like being crated, but we're continuing to work on making a crate his safe space. Rocky would do great with a family with older children, and one that understands he's needs managing his epilepsy."

Adopted: Nala, a 2 year old Female Yellow Labrador, who is looking for her forever home.

Here is a Bio from her foster family……..

"Nala - Simba's travelling companion, also came from Beijing, China. She too was rescued by Goldens without Borders, an organization dedicated to saving dogs from the meat trade industry.

Nala is adapting well to her recent whirlwind - a 6,000+ mile Pacific crossing, rescuers befriending her, medical/dental procedures, new home, playmates, people, sounds, smells, language - all of it!

She's sweet, lovey and curious. She entertains herself with a tennis ball when no fetch partner is around. She's a dainty eater, but goes with gusto at a sacrificial sock or stuffed toy. Happy to hang out and relax with the pack, she will let you know when she's bored and needs a little entertainment. She's mostly good being crated, uses the dog door comfortably, and rides very well in the car. Nala gets along with my two Labs and wants to try out the pool but it's off-limits until her spay stitches are removed. She only barks when appropriate. Nala responds to a quiet NO or AH, and learns quickly.

It doesn't appear that she's had any training, which fits with the path of her life until now. She is smart and very much wants to please, and we're working on SIT and STAY. I've had her for 4 days and already see progress. She's not quite house-trained either, but the repetition of sending her through the dog door every 2-3 hours and encouraging her to take care of business, is starting to take hold.

She's strong, young and energetic, so families with smaller children should be aware. I haven't seen her around children, or cats for that matter, but based on her personality, have no reason to believe there would be an issue. That said, the safety of both the children and the dog are of primary importance.

Nala's like a sponge who really wants to learn. An active family committed to giving her the guidance, boundaries, love and exercise she needs will be rewarded with an excellent companion, a most loyal friend and a great cuddler too! "

Adopted: Simba, a 2 year old Black Male Labrador

  • Simba-2

Adopted: Simba, a 2 year old Black Male Labrador, found his forever home.

Here is a Bio from his foster family……..

"Simba is a very unique addition to Las Vegas Labrador Rescue, having travelled all the way from Beijing, China to Las Vegas. Simba was recused by Goldens without Borders, an organization dedicated to saving dogs from the meat trade industry, and transported to the US, and ultimately, to Las vegas Labrador Rescue.
For a dog that has travelled farther than most, he is doing amazing in our home. Simba is energetic, playful, and really enjoys running around. He has discovered the pool, and was an instant fan of routine swims! He's does very well on leash, but will need more work, and is getting better every day with crating. He appears to be house-trained, does great with other dogs, and wants to play. Simba is very affectionate, loves getting rubbed and does the lean for good snuggles. Simba will need some work learning not to jump on people and he's still has a lot of puppy mouthy in him, so families with smaller children should be aware. As we do not have cats or small children, we are unsure how he would do around them, but we have no reason to think it would be an issue. Given that for most of his life his commands were given in a different language, Simba will need a little extra time learning new versions of sit, stay, etc. He's very smart, curious, a little bit of a foodie and an absolute sweet boy. He will make a great companion for an active family willing to do a little work to get him acclimated to a new home."
