Pending Adoption: Koda, a 3 year old Black Male Labrador, who is looking for his forever home.
Here is a bio from his foster family:
"Koda isn't your typical 3 year old Lab. He's energetic, with loads of puppy energy, and is learning how to channel that exuberance in to the right areas. Koda has had a difficult start, through no fault of his own, and is playing catch up, learning how to be his own dog. Koda is incredibly loving to humans, is the most excellent shadow, both figuratively and literal. He wants to be where the people are, happy to just be with you wherever that is. He is housetrained, learned a doggy door quickly, and loves to swim. He's smart, knows sit, stay (somewhat), high five and rides in the care well. Koda loves toys, and can de-fluff one in record time.
Where he needs continued training: Koda still gets a little nervous at night, and occasionally paces before settling back down. He is improving sleeping through the night, we believe once he feels fully 'at home', he'll sleep better. Koda is improving with self-regulated rest times, but needs to fully learn that he doesn't have to follow you every time you move. Koda is very food insecure, and thus, very food motivated. While he doesn't counter surf, he's very focused when you're in the kitchen, and needs work to learn not to be underfoot. He absolutely wolfs down his food, so continued use of a slow feeder will be helpful.
We don't believe Koda has been around other dogs much, so it's been a slower process with introduction & integration with our dog. With a lot of monitoring of their behavior, they do play well together and get along. They still need to be managed, as Koda is still learning how to give and take cues from another dog. It will take time and structure to build trust between Koda and another dog.
Koda is a wonderfully sweet, loving boy, that is merely behind in his 'dogging' life. He needs continued training & guidance to build his confidence, reinforced boundaries to tech him what's expected of him, and lots of love & security. Koda will make a wonderful companion to a family committed to continuing his training, as with patience, love and time, he will be the dog he was meant to be. "
